"What a great way to spend the day with family.
The Sculptors created some amazing sculptures. it was facinating to see them come to life throughout the day.
I really Appreciated that the sculptors took time to talk to the crowds and answer questions about themselves and their work. My Kids even enjoyed making their own creations in the sandbox zone, with helpful tips from a sand expert. Cannot wait to go again!"

Sculptors

We have a unique
blend of talent that allows
you to witness such a diverse
range of sand sculpting styles

The World's Best Sand Sculpting Championship is a production of Fitzy Snowman Sculpting. This competition sets new standards on what a professional sand sculpting contest can be. With world class accomidations, a site that is second to none and some of the best sand sculptors in the world, this event clearly takes its name "World's Best" very seriously. This 3 day competition is open to the public on the final two days, December 12,13. This years competition features 10 of the best sand sculptors from the USA. Competitors have a total of 21 hours over 3 days to transform 10 tons of fine sifted silt sand into works art so incredible, you wont beleive your eyes. Each competitor uses only sand and water to sculpt their piece. Once each piece is finished it is sealed with a light solution of Elmer's Glue and water. The glue has no structural component and simply prevents wind errosion.

The World's Best Sand Sculpting Championship is property of Fitzy Snowman Sculpting. Owner and cheif event architect Sean Fitzpatrick Hand crafted this event to showcase the talents of some of the World's Best Sand Sculptors. FAQs and Feedback

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions in sand sculpting along with answers from our world champion experts

How do you build them so tall?
Giant Navy helicopters fly in giant buckets. We use huge cranes to lift off the buckets. Actually we simply build wooden or plastic forms and stack them on top of each other. We remove the forms and carve from the top down.
What is the wire sticking out of the top of every sculpture?
It is an antenna signaling alien life form. Its a lightning rod. Actually it is a deterrent from large birds that might otherwise perch on top of the sculptures causing damage.
How do you get the sand to stick together so well?
We use the best sand possible. A fine grain, non-eroded sand with lots of tiny flat edges to hold all that water. Between each grain of sand there is a tiny water bridge holding them together. The sand is compressed together in plastic forms to remove most of the air. The less air, the stronger the bond.
How long do the artists have to complete their sculptures?
Each sculptor has a total of 21 hours to completely carve all the sand in their plot.
How does someone become a professional sand sculptor?
It takes passion, drive, skill, a willingness to learn new things. A little luck doesn't hurt either. There are competitions all over the world and marketing companies looking for a way to attract large crowds. Become good enough, and you get to compete at one of these competitions or get hired to create sand sculptures for a living.
What is that stuff you spray on the sculptures?
We use the term windscreen because that is what it is intended to do. It forms a protective barrier on the outside of the sculpture that prevents the wind and sun from blowing away the detail. It is made from 1 part biodegradable glue and 10 parts plain water. We do not mix it with the sand. It is not intended to hold the sculpture together, only to prevent erosion.
How long will the sand sculptures last?
There are many factors that determine the life span of one of these amazing ephemeral creations. Construction, compaction and the overall design will play as large a part, as will Mother Nature herself. A well thought out design with excellent compaction and construction can last for months even in the harshest of weather conditions. On the other hand a poorly designed or compacted structure or one that has stretched the limits of the sand itself may not survive for more than a few minutes or hours.

Drawing is the honesty of the art.
There is no possibility of cheating:
It is either good or bad.
